Harrison Quinton Even today, scientists still haven’t revealed the mystery behind memory. No one actually understands how it works. Memory, as we understand it, is when our brains document events that happen during each day and compile them in storage banks inside our minds. The brain is sort of like a supercomputer in the way it works. It performs the actions needed to stay alive and controls the body as it’s computer. Scientists understand other functions of the brain well enough, like our emotions, thought processes, and basic motor functions. But, memory is a bit more tricky to track and understand than other functions. No one is exactly sure how memory is stored or how it is processed in the mind. This makes it hard to understand or even start to study. Scientists only have been able to study what can be seen on the outer part of memory. Only what people have remembered, and not how, or why they remember what they do. Scientists now only know how to look at what people remember, but there has been vigorous study to be able to understand how memory works. Researchers may not know how memory actually works, but they are always getting ever closer to the answers of the human psyche. One day, we may actually understand the mysteries of memory.
